The Double Barrel, a Colorado Historic Landmark nestled along the Big Thompson River in West Loveland, has been a beloved icon for 75 years. This two-story Quonset Hut, with its unique double-barrel design, has served residents and tourists alike since it first opened its doors in 1950 as the Fawn Hollow Store. Originally providing groceries and outdoor recreation supplies, the store evolved into the Fawn Hollow Café in the mid-1970s. A year later, it became the Boeheim Cottage Restaurant, a fine-dining establishment known for its authentic German and Czech cuisine, until it closed its doors in 2012.
After remaining dark and silent for over a decade, Brandon and Ann Tonia Weiss acquired the property in 2023, falling in love with its setting, architecture, and surroundings. Now designated as a historic landmark on the Colorado State Registry and being nominated for the National Registry, the building is undergoing revitalization. Collaborating with the county, CDOT, and the Colorado Historical Society, the new owners are breathing new life into this iconic establishment.
The Double Barrel will be more than just a gathering place for family, friends, and strangers. It will be an experience—a place to learn about the history of this WWII Quonset Hut and the people and businesses that have built it. Guests will also have the opportunity to appreciate the incredible beauty of the area, enjoy impressive wildlife such as Big Horn Sheep, Elk, Deer, Turkeys, Bears, Eagles and create lasting memories.
